YOUR VOICE IS HEARD!
The voices of transgender youth have continuously been under and misrepresented. The mission of The Yellow Rose Initiative is to provide a platform for individuals to safely express their identity and develop a shared community among people with diverse yet relatable backgrounds.
The Yellow Rose Initiative is a collective of stories, joys, hardships, and breakthroughs told by trans kids for trans kids to recognize and connect with the transgender community. It is a reminder that transgender children are not alone and isolated, and that we are a safe and welcoming community to be a part of.
COLLABORATORS
Arden Chen (she/her) is a transgender girl from Houston, Texas. She is a student in the Creative Writing department at the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in downtown Houston. Arden created The Yellow Rose Initiative in the legacy of her aunt Monica Roberts, an African-American and transgender rights activist. She wishes to carry on her legacy of uplifting previously unseen trans voices and help transgender youth recognize the power that they have.
Desi Burns (they/he) is a genderfluid writer from Houston, Texas. They are a student at the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in the Creative Writing department. They are an upcoming poet and writer with publications in multiple literary magazines. He co-runs The Yellow Rose Initiative with the goal of bringing transgender voices to the forefront and helping people who are still in or questioning their transitions.
